Two fishermen safe after being rescued from the Illinois River

SEQUOYAH COUNTY, Okla. — Two fishermen are safe after they were rescued from the Illinois River, according to the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, the two fell into the river and were quickly overcome by the cold water temperatures. Other fishermen came to their aid pulling them from the water, calling 911, and performing CPR.

When first responders arrived, they took over CPR on one of the victims and began warming measures on the other. CPR was continued for several minutes by fire and EMS personnel and were able to get a pulse back.

Both men were flown to an area hospital.
