TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa International Airport is preparing for winter weather and said they’ll be doing all they can to keep the airport operational.
The process for keeping the airport operational during this type of weather starts before any snow hits the ground.
Airport staff starts with checking their equipment and preplanning how they are going to handle the incoming weather.
These plans can range from de-icing planes to pushing snow off runways with trucks and snow blowers.
According to Cole Brown, the Director of Operations for the Tulsa International Airport, his confidence in keeping the airport running is high and for good reason.
“I’m going to say we are the best in the country because I honestly believe that. I know that we have put on winter weather symposiums for other airports across the states. We study winter weather. We’ve made massive investments on sending people to snow symposiums and stuff to learn how the northern states do it, so the way we attack winter weather here in Tulsa is much like the northern states that get a foot of snow every day. That’s the way we address it and we are confident.”
The airport still recommends that if you have a flight out of or into Tulsa to check with your airline provider online to stay up to date on if your flight has been cancelled or delayed.
