OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol, with the help of the Oklahoma City Police, arrested a convicted sex offender who is suspected of vandalizing the state capitol over a week ago.
This morning, OHP served a search warrant and an arrest warrant for 28-year old Shelby Lang Smith, who authorities identified as the suspect responsible for vandalizing the Oklahoma State Capitol and other locations on January 13. Smith allegedly spray-painted anti-ICE slogans on the buildings, along with threats of violence. He is also a registered sex offender.
Smith is facing charges of seven counts of Malicious Destruction of Property, and one count of Threatening an Act of Violence.
Several years ago, Smith was convicted of soliciting sexual conduct communication with a minor by use of technology, and he is on the Oklahoma sex offender registry.
