Tulsa County gets FEMA grant to improve Garnett Rd.

By Steve Berg

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa County has successfully obtained a FEMA Grant in excess of $8 million to fix a flood-prone section of Garnett Road between 91st Street and 101st street.

The County says the grant will be used to help fund a $12 million project to reconstruct that one-mile stretch of roadway and then also to elevate the intersection at 101st and Garnett by 5 feet, in an effort to stop the chronic street flooding that happens there in heavy rains.

Once that’s done, the County then plans to work with Tulsa and Bixby to upgrade the two miles of 101st Street between Memorial Drive and Garnett Road.

Construction is expected to require a nine-month closure of the intersection once work begins.

No start date has been set yet for the projects.
