OWASSO, Okla. — The Owasso Police Department shared a reminder on the danger of children playing on frozen ponds.
Police said dispatch has received multiple calls over the past three days of juveniles standing on, playing on and even driving four-wheelers across frozen ponds around Owasso.
There have been no injuries, but police added it has been under a year since the last time children had to be rescued after falling through ice at a local pond.
Police said Oklahoma ponds do not generally get ice thick enough to support standing on, or playing on and especially not driving across.
Parents should talk to their children, even young adults, about the dangers of being on frozen ponds, police said.
