OKLAHOMA — Oklahoma Women on Fire, a group that celebrates female firefighters in Oklahoma, is expanding it reach with its upcoming calendar and they want you to participate.
The group is producing Fierce on the Frontline – International Edition, which they say will feature women firefighters in real action-based moments. It will highlight several aspects of a firefighter including training, leadership, response, and station life.
“We’ve kind of had a revamp, a redirection, of our calendar,” explained Oklahoma Women on Fire CEO Kendall Taylor. “We just wanted to do something a little bit different. We’ve been doing our calendar for eight years. It’s been super successful, but we kind of wanted an opportunity to include female firefighters no matter where they’re at. It could be in Europe; it could be in Australia. Fire service across different countries looks a little bit different, but it’s all universal. We all do the same thing, we want the same thing and it’s a struggle for women to feel included in that field, so we wanted to kind of break new barriers with this 2027 calendar.”
Taylor said they’re asking anyone who submits their photo to also provide a description of what’s happening in the image and why it’s important.
“The girls that submit their photo—they have to submit their own photo. Somebody cannot nominate them—they have to submit it and they have to kind of give us a little 150 word description as to why that photo was special to them. Whether it was something on scene or if it was them with their crew or training or some kind of leadership event, we want to see all that. We want to see what all the awesome women firefighters are doing across the world.”
Taylor said the international calendar is a chance to unite female firefighters globally similarly to how Oklahoma Women on Fire brings together local female firefighters.
“It’s been a really cool thing because a lot of us, we’re at different departments, we’re in different towns, we’re at different stations. We don’t really get to work with each other because there are so few of us. This organization brings all of that together and boosts confidence for everybody in our group. We’ve seen such a change in so many of our girls that came in with no confidence, no support. They may be the only female at their department and now they’ve got this crazy group of women that they can rely on and depend on.”
Those who submit their photos must be a female firefighter aged 18 or over.
The group will be taking submissions from now until May 1.
