Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office investigating suspicious death near Whitehorn Cove

WAGONER COUNTY, Okla. — The Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office said they’re investigating a suspicious death that occurred near the Whitehorn Cove area.

Around 2:44 a.m. on Jan. 29, deputies responded to a report of an unconscious person at a house near East 700 Road and South 334 Road in the Whitehorn Cove area.

When first responders arrived at the scene, they attempted to provide live-saving measures to the unconscious individual but were unsuccessful, leading to the person being pronounced dead at the scene.

According to deputies, observations at the scene and initial information led investigators to determine the circumstances surrounding the death were suspicious.

Law enforcement said they then secured the scene and began conducting an investigation where they gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses and first responders.

According to the sheriff’s office, they collected evidence at the scene indicating a violent altercation had taken place.

During the investigation, the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office said they identified Christopher Zwirtz and Roberta Slagle as suspects connected to the incident.

Both Zwirtz and Slagle were arrested and booked into the Wagoner County Jail on a Domestic Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon charge.

According to investigators, they anticipate additional charges to filed in this case.

The State of Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has accepted jurisdiction and will determine the cause and manner of death after an autopsy is conducted.
