COWETA, Okla. — A Wagoner County deputy assisted Coweta Police with providing lifesaving medical care to a man suffering from an overdose at a Coweta QuikTrip.

Around 12:35 p.m. on Jan. 30, Wagoner County Deputy Lawrence stopped at a QuikTrip near State Highway 51 and East 141st Street South to fill up his patrol car.

Following his arrival, Deputy Lawrence watched several Coweta Police cars drive into the parking lot with their lights on.

According to authorities, Coweta Police had been called to the gas station to perform a welfare check on a man in a pickup truck.

The sheriff’s office said Coweta Police determined the man was unresponsive and administered a dose of Narcan.

Deputy Lawrence approached the officers and offered his assistance, eventually administering a second dose of Narcan that authorities said caused the man’s condition to improve.

Coweta EMS then arrived at the scene and transported the man to the hospital for further medical treatment.

According to authorities, they found a black THC vape pen and an unknown type of white pill when they searched the man’s truck.

“This incident is a strong example of how quick thinking, training and teamwork saves lives,” said Wagoner County Sheriff Chris Elliott. “Deputy Lawrence’s actions, along with the Coweta Police Department and Coweta EMS, demonstrate the importance of interagency cooperation and preparedness. Because of their swift response, a life was spared, and that’s exactly why we continue to emphasize training and collaboration in emergency situations.”
