TULSA, Okla. — As of Monday, over 1,000 drivers have registered to participate in Tulsa’s Route 66 Capital Cruise, which is being held as part of Tulsa’s Route 66 Centennial celebration.
1,023 drivers from 26 states have already completed their registration.
In January, we told you that organizers of the Capital Cruise said they’ll be attempting to make an official Guinness World Record attempt for the largest classic car parade during the event.
Currently, the record for the largest classic car parade is 2,491 cars. Organizers for the Capital Cruise said they hope to have at least 3,000 cars registered by the parade’s start date on May 30.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, and drivers are taking advantage of the opportunity to be a part of history,” said Renee McKenney, the President of Tulsa Regional Tourism. “People are realizing Tulsa is the place to be, both for the Capital Cruise Centennial celebration and all our world-class attractions and entertainment options. We can’t wait to welcome all the drivers, spectators and enthusiasts who are ready to get their kicks on Route 66!”
Registration for the Capital Cruise is currently open, but cars must be model year 1996 or older to qualify as a classic car.
