Wife accused of killing former Cherokee Supreme Court Justice

VIAN, Okla. — A former Cherokee Nation Supreme Court Justice has been found dead, and his wife is accused of killing him.

Elizabeth Poteete is facing a charge of first-degree murder in the death of former Cherokee Justice Troy Poteete.

According to an affidavit, Sequoyah County Deputies say on February 5th, Elizabeth Poteete called authorities to say she had shot Troy Poteete.

When they arrived at the Poteete home in the town of Vian, they say they found Troy Poteete on the couch with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.

They say Elizabeth Poteete told them she was in fear for her life and claimed that Troy Poteete told her that his girlfriend and another person were going to come and shoot her.

She’s being held in the Sequoyah County Jail.
