CLREMORE — A Mounds man attended a packed Claremore Special City Council meeting about “Project Mustang” yesterday and found himself in handcuffs for refusing to comply with the rules.

Darrin Blanchard, 43, was ordered removed by the Claremore City Manager after he kept speaking past his allotted time, but he refused to stop. Claremore officers also tried to get him to stop, but he refused again and was taken into custody. Blanchard was handcuffed in the meeting, upsetting some of the residents.

Some people yelled “you’re shameful” and “disgusting” at the officers arresting him. Blanchard was arrested for trespassing and booked into the Rogers County Jail. Several speakers were very passionate about not wanting a data center near Claremore, and it got heated at times.

Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton says he feels like the man showed up to the meeting wanting to get arrested. Walton also said Blanchard bonded out of jail quickly.
