Broken Arrow City Council will hold another mask mandate vote

This will be the third vote for any kind of mask resolution

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Broken Arrow City Councilors will vote yet again on a citywide mask mandate during Tuesday’s meeting.

The Tulsa Health Department has designated Broken Arrow as an ‘Extreme Severe’ risk area based on active cases.

Tuesday’s city council meeting has been moved to the Stoney Creek Hotel & Conference Center near 61st and Elm, in order to better provide social distancing for the meeting.

Ordinance 3672, if passed, would require face coverings in public spaces.

The council will also hear an update on the city’s COVID infection rate, and multiple doctors will speak on the effectiveness of mask mandates.

In November of last year, a mask resolution could not even make its way through the city council, getting shut down with a 4-1 vote. Even then, it was only a recommendation to people in Broken Arrow to wear a mask and was not a mask mandate.

Ordinance 3672 looks very similar to Tulsa’s mask mandate. Children 10+ will need to wear a mask, and face coverings are worn inside public spaces and outside where social distancing isn’t possible.

Tuesday’s meeting will begin at 6:00 PM.
