BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The City of Broken Arrow announced their plans to improve on the intersection of New Orleans Street and Elm Place Tuesday evening.
“The contract has been awarded, and construction will begin soon on the intersection of New Orleans and Elm Place. We expect work to start around the first of June. Thank you, Broken Arrow. This project would not be possible without your approval of the 2018 General Obligation Bond,” the city said in a statement.
The Engineering and Construction Department worked with the professional engineering firm Kimley-Horn to complete the final construction plans and documents, according to a statement on the city’s website.
The project plan s for the intersection were presented to the Broken Arrow City Council during its meeting on April 19, 2022. The plans include:
- Traffic signals
- Streetlighting
- Hardscaping
- Gateways
- Landscaping and irrigation
- Approximately 600 feet of 10-feet wide sidewalk
- Approximately 2,200 feet of 5-feet wide sidewalk
- Approximately 2,400 feet of 12-inch waterline
- Decorative concrete intersection
- Asphalt mill and overlay
The new pavement configuration will include two through lanes in each direction along with left turn lanes at the intersection. Additionally, a right turn lane is included along northbound Elm Place for right turns onto eastbound New Orleans Street.
The proposed improvements include replacement of the interior intersection with a “decorative full depth concrete pavement using colored/patterned concrete and pavers.” The color scheme will be decided on at a later date, the city explained in their statement.
The existing asphalt pavement beyond the intersection will be milled and overlaid with extending approximately 400 feet in each direction from the center of the intersection.
Construction is expected to start at the beginning of June after the construction contract has been put out for bid and awarded.
