TULSA, Okla. — The City of Tulsa celebrated its 125th birthday Wednesday.
Mayor G.T. Bynum cut a huge cake at City Hall in downtown Tulsa to mark the special occasion.
Bynum told FOX23, “pretty remarkable to think about where we’ve come. I can’t imagine that any of those folks who were living in Tulsa when they founded a city in 1898 could imagine what the city would look like today.”

He said it was a city that looked a lot different.
“Tulsa was a couple hundred people, we had no public school,” said Bynum.
In 1899, the second mayor of Tulsa was actually Bynum’s great-great-grandfather. Then, his grandfather was the mayor for the city’s 75th birthday in 1973. Bynum is the fourth in his family to serve as mayor.
“Today is a great day to think about all the people who have come before that have help make this a city that we all love, and then what we’re doing right now to make it a great city for the next 125 years,” Bynum said.
