TULSA, Okla. — A road closure isn’t always bad for business.

“I feel like some people look at the car wash when they turn like it seems like a good time to get the car wash,” said Connor Wilson.

Connor Wilson works at Freedom Car Wash.

“It has slowed down business a little bit but overall, it has been steady business wide,” said Wilson.

The car wash sits across from these road closed signs where traffic cannot pass while crews work on widening the road.

“We are in the middle of Phase Two. we are about halfway through the full closure which started on March 28th and so the big focus of Phase Two is the ball system on the west side,” said Project Manager Elliot Stiles.

Stiles said the wall being built to widen the road is coming up and soon the road closed signs will be coming down.

“When we reach the end of July that is when we are going start looking at reopening to traffic, so our plan is to reopen on the 26th of July,” Stiles explained.

FOX23 previously reported when the $30 million project broke ground in November of 2021. It’s the most expensive road project to date in the City of Tulsa. It’s been dubbed ‘The Hill’ and not for good reasons.

“I know there have been like a few wrecks where people go up the road and down the hill,” said Wilson.

Wilson said the change is needed.

“it’s a good thing overall we just have to deal with it,” Wilson said.

He said they’ve recently lost about a quarter of their business. The City of Tulsa expects that by 2023 in the fall the project will be completed.

“That will be good for getting here and good for business,” Wilson explained.

Phase Three will begin in August and will be the longest phase of the project.
