MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Dozens of residents and animals have been rescued from their homes overnight as rising water threated their homes in Muskogee’s Meadows neighborhood.

Muskogee City Emergency Manager Tyler Evans said emergency responders responded to dozens of water rescues as the rain has stressed the city’s system.

“Muskogee fire, police, and EMS with assistance from every available resource from surrounding areas are literally everywhere stretched thin combating the results of this morning’s flooding including rescues,” Muskogee Mayor Marlon Coleman posted on Facebook.

As of 5:30 a.m., sections of Beacon Street, Old Shawnee, 24th Street, Highway 69, and Border Street are closed due to high water in Muskogee, the city of Muskogee said.

In Muskogee County, there is no access in or out of Gooseneck Bend, Muskogee County Commissioner Ken Doke posted on Facebook.

“All routes are currently flooded; including Country Club, York Street, Smith Ferry, 53rd, Sallie Brown, etc. In fact, the number of roads across the county that are flooded and impassable are too many to count,” Doke said.

Between 3 and 8 inches of rain have fallen in parts of the state, according to the National Weather Service.

Muskogee Public Schools are in distance learning Thursday due to flooding.
