TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Police Department (TPD) says officers were on patrol downtown Sunday, Feb. 12 around 1:40 a.m. when they got a call to respond to the bar, Whiskey 918.
TPD says as officers walked across the street to the bar, a silver BMW swerved between them. Officers yelled at the driver to stop, but the BMW sped away.
A traffic stop was attempted by another TPD officer, but the driver continued to drive away, running several stop signs.
Around 4th Street and Kenosha Avenue, the BMW driver turned into a private gated drive, before crashing into a commercial dumpster and fence.
TPD says the driver, Aldo Ramirez, appeared to be heavily intoxicated. They say his breath reportedly smelled of alcohol, his speech was slurred, he had watery eyes and he had difficulty standing on his feet. Officers also say a small amount of marijuana was found in Ramirez’s car.
Ramirez was taken to the hospital and later booked into the Tulsa County Jail on eight charges including DUI, Reckless Driving, Eluding and Malicious Injury to Property.
