ROGERS COUNTY, Okla. — Inola middle and high school campuses now have school resource officers, courtesy of Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton.
“Right now the reality is there’s a lot of tragedy happening in schools around the world,” said Roger’s County Sheriff’s Deputy Sheldon Morgan.
Morgan is the school resource officer for both the middle and high schools. He told FOX23 he graduated from Inola High School.
“It’s all about the children,” Morgan said.
Heather Ellis is the principal of Inola High School. She feels her students are safer with Morgan there.

“Just having them there, so there’s no wait time,” Ellis explained. “It’s somebody that’s here ready to go if we did need anything, then they would just be here.”
Ellis also said she believes Morgan is building trust with the students, and that trust builds better relationships.
She said, “He’s here he’s meeting kids getting to know kids they’re developing a relationship with him.”
The Rogers County Sheriff’s Office fought hard for the funding to place school resource officers at all the schools in their district. They said school safety as a priority.
The county has five resource officers in its seven school campuses. They are all highly trained sheriff’s deputies.
Walton told FOX23 he pushed for the resource officers, and the County Commissioners provided the funding.
