1 arrested after street racing causes crash in south Tulsa

The Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police said a 20-year-old man was arrested after street racing and crashing into a car in south Tulsa.

Police said officers saw two street racers on the Creek Turnpike driving 120 miles per hour Tuesday night. Police attempted to catch the vehicles as they continued to drive northbound on Highway 169.

Police said officers did not begin a pursuit as they were too far from the racers.

One of the drivers turned off the vehicle’s headlights as they continued to race on Highway 169, reaching up to 152 miles per hour.

As both vehicles exited on East 61st Street toward city streets, the officer turned on his lights and sirens. One of the racers turned east while the other crashed into a car who had a green light at the intersection.

The driver, identified as Kamare Lee Johnson, was taken into custody for reckless driving, running a red light and no insurance. While at the hospital to receive medical clearance, Johnson claimed he was going too fast to take the turn and never saw the officer behind him.

Police said a minor was in Johnson’s vehicle and taken to the hospital.

Police said the woman who was hit in the intersection was taken to the hospital for observation.
