Celebrations were quickly underway at the Stokely Event Center in Tulsa Tuesday night as G.T. Bynum wins the mayoral election.
Bynum received a majority vote, meaning there will be no runoff and he will become mayor when Bartlett’s term is finished in December.
Mayor Dewey Bartlett gave a concession speech just after 9 p.m. Tuesday, congratulating G.T. Bynum on his victory.
The Stokely Event Center came to life as Mayor-elect Bynum took to the podium for his victory speech.
"I'm honored to be the person that's going to succeed him [Bartlett] in that office." Bynum said.
Bynum thanked Mayor Bartlett and said he hopes to continue the relationship he has had with Mr. Bartlett for many years.
Bynum thanked the voters and his wife and kids for supporting him throughout the campaign process.
Bynum told KRMG he will work hard in his last few months as a city councilor, but will also begin preparations to take over the office of the mayor of Tulsa.
