Candidates for Tulsa County GOP Chair Part 1: Melissa Myers

Tulsa County Republicans will select a new leader when they meet for a county convention March 1st.

Current County Chairwoman Ronda Vuillemont-Smith has reportedly decided not to seek a third two-year term, and thus far two women have publicly announced their intentions to seek the office.

Melissa Myers, recent candidate for Tulsa County Commissioner in District Two, tells KRMG she still wants to find a way to make a difference.

“At the end of the day, my narrative has not changed,” she said. “I want to serve people, and serve the people of Tulsa, and Tulsa County. So I just continue to walk through the doors that continue to open.”

While she lost that county commission race, she did beat a long-time city councilor in the general election, and narrowly lost a run-off.

“I gave it a good run, and got 47% of the vote, and that was fantastic,” she added, “so I feel like a winner in that.”

Asked her plans for the county GOP, she said she wants to “get our citizens engaged in the process of the Republican Party, that’s the first goal. Also, equip people with the knowledge and the history of the Republican Party, and the platform, and why a Republican Party we choose to follow.”

KRMG plans to post the profile of her opponent, Charity Marcus, on Tuesday Jan. 22nd.

To participate in the March 1 convention and vote for a chairperson, Republicans must attend district precinct meetings, which will mostly be held on Tuesday, Jan. 28th.
