Cyber attack disrupts operations at Broken Arrow Public Schools

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The Broken Arrow Public School District contacted the FBI after they were recently targeted by criminals online.

The Board of Education voted to hire cyber security experts to help with the investigation and recovery efforts.

The experts confirmed that the district has been the victim of a ransomware attack.

Ransomware is a type of malicious software designed to deny access to a computer system or data until a ransom is paid.

Schools leaders say they have no plans to pay the ransom.

They aren’t aware of any unauthorized disclosure of student personal data or financial information.
