DAV, RecruitMilitary team up for Tulsa Veterans Job Fair

TULSA — Thursday, the DAV and RecruitMilitary will hold a job fair in Tulsa designed to help veterans, military spouses, reservists and guardsmen find careers.

The event coordinator is Doug Turner, himself a retire U.S. Marine who - ironically - got the position by attending one of the RecruitMilitary job fairs himself.

“It’s funny, because I got hired at one of these job fairs. I did 24 years in the Marine Corps, went to the job fair in Cincinnati, got hired by RecruitMIlitary. So these things really do work,” he told KRMG.

The key, he says, is that vets need to take the initiative.

“No one’s gonna call them, and knock on the door, and give them a job. They need to make the effort to come down and talk to the companies and network. That’s all they’ve got to do - let me help them,” Turner said.

He also believes it’s important for veterans to think in terms of a career.

“That’s the thing that these veterans have to understand. Yeah, they want to get a job right out of the military and get that paycheck, keep it going. Why not look for a career? Talk to the companies, find what your passion is, and just stick with it. These companies know that, these companies are willing to work with the veterans and talk with them.”

DAV and RecruitMilitary have held more than 800 of these events over the last decade, but this is the first ever in Tulsa.

It will be held at the Cox Business Center, 100 Civic Center in downtown Tulsa.

The hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, April 13th.
