Road improvements coming to 51st Street in east Tulsa

Road work begins Monday, Feb. 3rd on 51st Street between Mingo and Garnett, according to the City of Tulsa.

The city said the project consists of removing the old surface of the road, patching where needed under the surface and repaving the surface of the road. The project will also include new sidewalks and ramps at the intersection, new traffic lights and new curbs and gutters.

The city provided the following information about lane closures during the project:

During the first phase of the project, the innermost eastbound and westbound lanes of S. Mingo Rd., between S. 100th E. Ave. and S. 111th E. Ave., will be closed with traffic limited to one way each direction. This phase is expected to last three months. Once completed, these lanes will reopen to two-way traffic as the outermost lanes close.

Beginning in the fall, work will start on the intersection of E. 51st St. and S. Mingo Rd., beginning with construction on the north portion. During this phase, the outermost lanes for eastbound, westbound and northbound traffic will be closed. Once work on the north side is finished, crews will shift to the south portion of the intersection, requiring closures of the outermost lanes for southbound, eastbound and westbound traffic until construction is completed.

The City of Tulsa said the project is scheduled to be finished early next year.
