An inmate at the Tulsa County jail was taken to the hospital after an attempted hanging early Wednesday morning.
Maj. Shannon Clark with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office confirms the incident happened inside a cell off of one of the main "pods" or living areas of the jail.
He tells KRMG the man, believed to be about 30 years 0ld, was in a cell with another inmate at the time the attempted hanging was discovered.
Investigators have not yet determined if the incident was an attempted suicide or an attempted homicide.
The inmate was transported to an area hospital.
The jail, officially called the David L. Moss Correctional Center, has suffered from overcrowding and insufficient psychiatric facilities, two problems the sheriff and county commissioners hope to solve by getting a sales tax initiative solved.
If successful, they would add two more wings to the jail, one of them dedicated to inmates with mental health issues.
