Latest West Nile virus death brings statewide total to 10

Former Mayor of Guthrie, Oklahoma died of the disease over the weekend

The number of Oklahomans who've died of West Nile virus this year has, at least un-officially, now hit double-digits.

The former mayor of Guthrie is the state's latest victim.

Jon Gumerson died Saturday in Oklahoma City.

His obituary says he contracted West Nile.

Gumerson was 76.

If confirmed, Gumerson's death brings the number of deaths attributed to West Nile statewide to 10.

The total number of Oklahoma West Nile cases in 2012 as of last Thursday was 160.

The state department of health releases West Nile virus numbers twice a week.

The latest numbers will be released tomorrow.
