Murals intended to create community at Monroe Demonstration Academy

The first two artists are Lucinda Jones and Alexander Tamahn

TULSA — Two very special murals are now complete at Monroe Demonstration Academy near E. 46th St. N. and Lewis Ave.

Interim Principal Rob Kaiser says last summer school leaders realized they didn’t have many images that represented the diverse student body.

“We knew, at the time, that we didn’t have any real imagery within our building that was truly reflective of our students, families, and community and we wanted to change that,” said Kaiser.

They talked to students, parents and local artists to come up with a plan.

Kaiser says they have students with seven different languages. The murals have at least one word from each.

Two murals are complete with two more on the way.
