ROGERS COUNTY, Okla. — Rogers County Deputies are investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide in an Owasso neighborhood near South 4050 Rd and East 116th Street North.
Rogers County Sheriff’s Office said a couple in their 60s died in an apparent murder-suicide around 4:30 a.m. Monday morning.
Investigators are still looking into what led up to their deaths, but they believe a man shot his wife before shooting himself.
“Reports are that they’ve had some issues here recently,” said Maj. Coy Jenkins with Rogers County Sheriff’s Office. “It appears the husband shot his wife and then took his own life.”
The Rogers County Sheriff was called by the children of the couple around 8 a.m. after they read some disturbing text messages from their parents earlier Monday morning.
That family beat law enforcement to the house where they discovered the scene.
Investigators aren’t identifying the couple yet, but they said the couple reportedly had issues before the incident.
“I think as a law enforcement officer, we’re just touching the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the mental health issue people are having,” Jenkins said. “We work with mental health providers to reach out to our community, but this is just one that got by us.”
