Okla. AG accuses pharmaceutical company of a cover up

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter released what were confidential documents Thursday in the case against the nation’s leading opioid manufacturers.

The state’s top lawyer says Purdue Pharma executed a covert disinformation campaign that attacked attorneys general who had filed lawsuits against opioid manufacturers.

“These documents are damning evidence showing Purdue executives were more interested in spreading propaganda than stopping the death toll from rising and fixing the problem they created,” said Attorney General Hunter.

Hunter says the documents show Purdue planted stories in national publications and on social media.

The idea was to shift blame for the growing opioid crisis to victims of opioid addiction and de-legitimize the lawsuits.

“The company’s actions are absolutely appalling,” said Hunter.
