UPDATE: Broken Arrow Public Schools sent a timeline of events to parents Friday afternoon to explain what happened leading up to the police being called and the school going on lockdown.
The timeline explains that reports of a weapon on campus were actually resolved hours before police were called.
Below is the timeline sent by BAPS:
- Around 9:30 this morning, BAPS Campus Security received a report about a student possibly having a weapon. Campus security immediately made direct contact with the involved students and was able to determine that NO weapon was on campus. There was no credible threat to students or staff.
- Two hours later, a student heard about the morning situation and made a call to a parent, who then called 911 at approximately 11:35 a.m.
- BAPD responded to the high school at approximately 11:40 a.m. and placed the high school on lockdown.
- Officers located the students in question and took them into custody.
- Officers did not locate any weapons in the possession of these students or anywhere else on campus.
- The lockdown was lifted at 12:23 p.m.
- No injuries occurred, and there was no credible threat to the school.
“Broken Arrow Public Schools appreciates the swift action of both its Campus Security Guards and the Broken Arrow Police Department. We recognize that events like today can cause trauma, and the high school will have extra counselors available next week for students and staff. It takes all of us working together to keep our schools safe, and we appreciate your support during situations like this.”
Broken Arrow High School was placed on lockdown Friday after police were called to investigate a shooting threat said to have been made by a student.
According to BAPD, someone called police around 11:30am saying a student had a gun inside a classroom and was threatening to shoot other students.
Police said two students believed to have guns were detained, but were ultimately released after no weapons were found.
Police said no one was hurt and there was ultimately no threat to the school.
