NWS confirms EF-1 tornado touched down in Coweta, classes canceled for the rest of the week

COWETA, Okla. — UPDATE, 10/11/21, 4:56 p.m.: The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down last night in Coweta. In addition to Coweta, the NWS says an EF-0 tornado was confirmed in Beggs as well.

UPDATE, 10/11/21, 10:15 a.m.: Classes have been canceled for Tuesday at Coweta Public Schools. Because Fall Break was already scheduled to begin Wednesday, so classes will be out for the rest of the week.

Classes have been canceled for all Coweta Public Schools after last night’s storms rolled through the area.

Students will not learn virtually.

Damage has been reported at several schools and a baseball park. Mission Intermediate was the hardest hit school in the area. Air conditioners have been ripped from the building, a fence has blown over, and a window is busted. Power lines are also down in the area.

No major injuries were reported, but several homes, cars, and buildings were damaged.
