Suspected copper thief caught red-handed

Sun, Nov. 5, 2017 — A man was caught red-handed Friday night stealing copper from city lights in Tulsa.

Police tell us Colby Nutter is accused of taking copper out of a light along Highway 75.  He was found with backpack containing tools and more copper.

Residents we spoke to say they're tired of driving in the dark thanks to thieves.

“I was trying to drive home, following my GPS, and I noticed that I could see all the street signs and where I was going,” one resident said.  “Then I could not because it was very dark.”

City officials report they are working to repair highway lights that have been stripped of their copper.

What do you think the proper punishment should be for people who get caught stealing copper from street lights?
