Tally's American Café in Tulsa offers free Thanksgiving feast

It's a tradition for owner Tally Alame that goes back nearly 30 years

Not everyone can afford a Thanksgiving feast, while others may simply have no one with which to share a holiday meal.

But if they can make it to Tally's American Café between 11:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, they'll find both a lot of food and a lot of company.

Tally Alawe tells KRMG he's offered free meals on the holiday to all comers since 1987.

"Coming from Lebanon originally, I was never able to experience a Thanksgiving holiday until I came to the United States," he told KRMG Wednesday. Now, "this is my favorite time of year. It's time to look back, and see everything we are thankful for."

Allawe came to the U.S. at age 19, ending up in Oklahoma because he had family here.

He built his business over the years after working at various Tulsa restaurants and attending classes at OSU on weekends.

"I'm very thankful for the opportunity, for the job I do every single day," he said, "and to live in a country that offers so much. So that's why I began this annual tradition of sharing my gratitude with the community by offering a free holiday meal for eveyone who needs it."

He began preparing the feast Monday, and has put in long hours to bring it all together.

"It will be turkey, baked smoked ham, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, sweet potatoes, rolls, cranberry salad, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and peach cobbler," Alawe said.

All the effort is well worth it, he said.

"I'm blessed with great business here. I just want no one to feel they have no place to go."
