The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office has fifty job openings for people interested in excellent training and benefits, and a possible career in law enforcement.
TCSO deputies generally start out as detention officers in the county jail, unless they're already certified peace officers.
Sgt. Randy Pierce says "we're taking applications right now for detention officer, and then in the later part of July, 2013 we'll be testing for deputy also."
"It's only fair to our kids that are working over there that they can apply first for the deputy's position, they've paid their dues by working at the jail, so they should get the first shot at it."
He says detention officers undergo some of the best training in the country, training that could pay off on any number of career paths.
However, they don't want just anyone to apply.
"We will not violate our accreditation standards," he said. "We're going to hire quality people."
The basic requirements are that an applicant be 18 years old, have a valid Oklahoma ID, a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and no felony convictions.
They pay 75 percent of college and have excellent medical and dental benefits, he said.
The jail, he adds, is "the best training ground they'll ever experience" if interested in a career in law enforcement.
For an application, visit TCSO.org, or pick one up at the Faulkner Building, 303 W. 1st St., the county courthouse, or the David L. Moss Correctional Center lobby.
The completed application should be dropped off at the Faulkner Building.
