Tulsa police say parts of the counter were still on fire when firefighters arrived

TULSA, Okla. — UPDATE: Tulsa Fire Marshals arrested Marshall Chippewa for setting two fires at the 81st and Memorial QuikTrip Monday morning.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Tulsa police say they arrested a man who started multiple fires at a QuikTrip near East 81st Street and Memorial Drive early Monday morning.

According to TPD, the man was lighting fires outside the store before he went inside and poured accelerant on the counter and told the clerk he was going to burn the place to the ground.

The clerk and security guard reportedly exited the building and immediately called 911. Police say when firefighters got to the store, parts of the counter were still on fire.

As officers were heading to the scene around 2:45 a.m., they say they spotted a car that matched the suspect vehicle’s description.

TPD says when the officers went to make contact with the vehicle it side-swiped another and crashed out.

After a short chase on foot, police arrested the man and took him into custody.
