Modoc Nation Chief Bill Follis passes away

TULSA, Okla. — The longest serving chief of the Modoc Nation, Chief Bill Follis, died at the age of 89.

His family released a statement on Saturday to announce his passing.

A life-long resident of Miami, Follis began his time as chief in 1972, after completing his service as a naval aviator.

His family says he will be remembered as a strong community leader and a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Details on a memorial celebration have not yet been released.
