SAPULPA, Okla. — Marine Corps Junior ROTC students in Sapulpa have a new place to practice their drills.
Sapulpa Public Schools, the American Legion and the Sapulpa Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for the Major Jerry Swepston Marine Corps Training Facility Tuesday.
It’s named after the former JROTC instructor who spearheaded getting the new facility built.
“We have to have a place to practice our shooting and our drills,” said Major Sweptson. “All the gyms are taken with all the different sport’s activities so I kept promising the kids I would get a building just for them.”
Major Swepston not only raised $175,000 to build the new drill hall but worked to draw up the plans and found the contractors to build it.
