BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — UPDATE, 3/14/22, 2:55 p.m.: Battalion Fire Chief Rusty Schaefer has shared new information from Saturday’s deadly fire. The cause hasn’t been determined, but the family was using a heating source that wasn’t intended for indoor use. He also said that any explosions that happened after the fire did not cause the fire.

Three people are dead and a child is in the hospital after a fire broke out early Saturday in Broken Arrow.

Broken Arrow Deputy Fire Chief James Suddath said firefighters responded to a mobile home fire near Kenosha and County Line Road after 5 a.m.

“The whole things was just ablaze, you could see the flames as tall the trees,” says Zack Grammer.

A grandmother and two kids died in the fire, Suddath said. BA Fire says one grandchild was able to make it out but was burned on the face and hands and is now in the hospital.

“I think all the neighbors can feel that loss, it’s really sad,” Grammer said.

Neighbors say they tried their best to help but the flames were just too big.

“There was a young lady out here saying ‘help, help my mother and my sister are in there’,” said Grammer.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but firefighters did note there was no gas running into the house and they believe there weren’t smoke detectors.

The family told FOX23 the child in the hospital is just 15 years old. They shared this GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses. In the hours since the fire Saturday more than $6,000 was already raised.
