MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Muskogee business and city leaders are making it easier for families to put down roots in Muskogee and buy a home.
Those families all work for Muskogee companies that applied for Port Muskogee’s new housing stipend incentive program.
The program gives families each $10 thousand to go toward purchasing a home after they relocate to Muskogee.
The first three of those families got their checks Tuesday, with thousands of dollars in funds for more families to get checks as well.
Lemuel Young and his family relocated from Houston to Muskogee so he could become head of sales at a local company. He said he wouldn’t change his decision for the world.
“The $10 thousand was super helpful, and we’re going to put that back into our home and kind of beautify it. It’s just going to be a huge help,” said Young.
“I feel pretty good that we are in a situation in our community that we can actually draw talent from larger metropolitan areas, not just in the state of Oklahoma, but from other surrounding states as well,” said Muskogee Mayor Marlon Coleman.
Coleman said they still have enough funds for 20 more families to receive the stipends and to be on the lookout for more announcements soon.
