TULSA, Okla. — Around one hundred people turned out to hear democratic gubernatorial candidate Joy Hofmeister deliver her message of change in Oklahoma.
Supporters were enthusiastic and saw Hofmeister as an alternative to Oklahoma’s current governor, Republican Kevin Stitt.
FOX23 caught up to Hofmeister after the kickoff and asked about her stance on Roe v. Wade.
She said she personally chooses life, but added:
“I do not favor extremism on either side of this issue. Most importantly, this is a healthcare decision between a woman and her doctor, and it needs to stay that way.”
She was also asked about the Swadley’s Foggy Bottom controversy.
Hofmeister said, “This is an example of where the Governor said he wanted to control all of these agencies, and he put people in that have really squandered tax-payer dollars.”
FOX23 then got her thoughts on LGBTQ+ issues in schools such as restroom restrictions and attempts at book banning.
Hofmeister said, “It is so important that we continue to focus the fact that many kids in Oklahoma are bullied. They are experience suicidal ideation and depression. And I would never want to do anything that would hurt any of our kids.”
Hofmeister also discussed critical race theory in the classroom.
“There are some tough subjects about the Tulsa Race Massacre, for example. And they should not fear teaching our academic standards in social studies.”
Hofmeister plans to travel the state in an SUV that already has more than half a million miles on it from traveling from town to town, but she’s ready to put many more miles on the odometer.
