CATOOSA, Okla. — The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) demolished the westbound US-412 bridge Friday with one big implosion.

The $13.8 million bridge replacement project began Sept. 6 on US-412 in Rogers County, according to ODOT.

The FOX23 Skyview drone captured the moment from the sky, as large chunks of concrete fell into the Verdigris River. As the smoke clears, ODOT says their next step is to recover those pieces from the river.

The eastbound US-412 bridge was demolished in the same way and reconstructed in 2017 so five years later it was time for the westbound side.

During construction, traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction as drivers going both directions use the eastbound bridge over the Verdigris River.

ODOT says work is expected to be done in late 2023.
