Jury recommends David Ware get the death penalty

TULSA, Okla. — The jury in the murder trial of David Ware has recommended the death penalty for the killing of Tulsa police Sergeant Craig Johnson.

The recommendation was made Wednesday night around 7 p.m., after jurors spent about three hours deliberating.

Two jurors asked to be excused leading up to the death penalty recommendation. They were replaced with alternate jurors.

Ware had been recommended life in prison plus 56 years and over $30,000 in fines last week for his other convictions.

The death penalty has been recommended on top of that.

District Judge Bill LaFortune, the judge overseeing the case, has scheduled Ware’s formal sentencing for May 13.
