OWASSO, Okla. — After the resignation of Antonio Graham, Bill Blankenship is set to leave retirement and return to his position as Owasso Public Schools’ head football coach and Director of Football Operations.
“I am thrilled to welcome back Bill Blankenship, who has spent a lifetime building character and fostering a culture of excellence in his programs,” said Owasso Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Margaret Coates. “He is a man of great integrity, as well as an incredible mentor and role model for our student-athletes. His record both on and off the field is second to none, and I know our staff and community will be excited to have Coach Blankenship back on the sidelines.”
During his career at Owasso, Blankenship led the Owasso football team to 69 wins and a pair of state titles in seven seasons from 2017-2023. He’s a member of the Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame and he’s won the 2012 Conference USA Coach of the Year Award and the 2021 AFCA/AFCF Power of Influence Award.
“I want to first express my gratitude to Superintendent Dr. Margaret Coates and Athletics Director Zach Duffield for trusting me with this amazing opportunity,” said Blankenship. “I also want to thank my family, especially Angie, for their support of my return to coaching. Eight years ago, I came to Owasso because of many long-term personal relationships and because it was clear that this community is special. Those are still factors that lead me to accept this opportunity today. While I certainly enjoyed my first effort at retirement, I missed the day-to-day involvement with our student-athletes and seeing them develop as young men. I’m excited to be home once again and I can’t wait to get started.”
Blankenship’s return will become official once it’s approved by the Owasso Board of Education.
