The last day of school is also changing — BIXBY, Okla. — Bixby Public Schools Superintendent Rob Miller announced that winter break will be extended to January 8th, 2021.
The announcement was made on Thursday after the school’s Board of Education voted to modify the 2020-2021 academic calendar after concerns of COVID-19.
The extension of winter break was made so students returning to the classroom on January 11th, have a 10-day “at-home” period after the winter holidays, announced BPS.
“Given the current and anticipated expansion in COVID case numbers after the holidays, it would be problematic to bring students back to in-person instruction during the first week of January after many families have traveled out of state and/or celebrated in large gatherings over the break,” Miller said.
The announcement also notes changes to the last day of school, changing it from Wednesday, May 19 to Wednesday, May 26.
