Legendary blues artist Taj Mahal won his fifth Grammy at the 67th GRAMMY Awards Sunday evening.
Taj Mahal won in the ‘Best Traditional Blues Album’ category for his album “Swingin’ Live At The Church In Tulsa.” The album was recorded at the famed Church Studio, once the home of Leon Russell’s Shelter Records.
In his acceptance speech, Mahal thanked Teresa Knox, the owner of The Church Studio.
“Wow, thank you very much.” Taj Mahal said. “I would like to also give a shout out to Teresa Knox at the Church in Tulsa and to Claudia Lennear, who suggested me to come there and make this recording and to you, who have always supported me through my trials playing music.”

It means the world to our team to see this recognition, and it’s a proud moment for Tulsa as a music city with both a rich past and a relevant present. This honor pays tribute to the legendary Taj as well as the incredible talent that continues to come through our city and our doors.” Teresa Knox said in a social media post.
Taj Mahal was also nominated in the ‘Best American Roots Performance’ category for “Nothing In Rambling,” a song he recorded with Bonnie Raitt, Keb’ Mo’, and Mick Fleetwood.
The 82-year-old has 17 Grammy nominations and five wins in his career.
He’ll get to celebrate his big win in Tulsa when her performs at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center on Thursday, February 6th.
