People who live in Glenpool are all too familiar with the unpleasant smells coming from the city’s sewage treatment facility, but that old plant’s days are numbered.
The City of Glenpool broke ground on a nearly $59 million dollar wastewater treatment facility. Known as a “small-batch reaction” facility, the city said it will double the capacity of the existing lagoon-style system.
Much of the cost, $44 million of it, is being paid for with federal funding from American Rescue Plan Act, the city said.. The remainder of the funds come from a low-interest loan from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board, city officials added.
“I was committed to getting our city’s share of the ARPA funds to support the construction of this new facility, which is a crucial step toward enhancing our infrastructure and fostering sustainable development in Glenpool.” Glenpool Joyce Mayor Calvert said. “With this investment, we are ensuring that our wastewater management system not only meets current demands but also supports the future growth of our city.”
City leaders said construction on the wastewater facility will take about two years to complete.
