The Superintendent of Coweta Public Schools says they may have to drop three bus routes next Tuesday, because two drivers are quarantined in connection with Covid-19.

Superintendent Jeff Holmes says they were already having some drivers ‘double-up’ on the number of routes they drive, even before they got word of losing two more drivers.

“We’re extremely, extremely shorthanded, and the news that we had yesterday afternoon, where we lost a couple more drivers, really hurt us,” Holmes said.

The issue illustrates the problem that many districts are likely to experience as the school year goes on.

Holmes points out that employees don’t even necessarily have to get the virus themselves, to be quarantined.

They’re also required to be quarantined if they’ve been in close contact with someone who tests positive.

“So if someone happens to be at a family gathering outside of school and they find out that someone’s positive, they have to quarantine for 14 days, so those are some of the issues that we’re dealing with,” he said.
