Cox Enterprises announced Tuesday it will explore strategic alternatives for 14 television properties, including partnering or merging the stations into a larger ownership group.

The company owns Tulsa FOX23 and KMYT- TV. Cox also owns or has interest in stations in Atlanta, Orlando, Jacksonville, Memphis, Boston, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, and Dayton, Ohio.

“We did not take this decision lightly. We’ve come to the conclusion that scale is critical to the future of TV. Stations as great as ours will need to be part of a larger entity in order to grow in the future. We will seek to partner or merge with others to achieve scale. We have some of the best stations in the country and we think we will have good options,” said Alex Taylor, president and chief executive officer of Cox Enterprises.

Cox will continue to operate other parts of its media portfolio. The company also owns Tulsa radio stations: KRMG (102.3FM and AM740), KRAV (96.5), KJSR (103.3), and KWEN (95.5).

“Our award-winning TV stations have played a vital role in helping Cox become a best-in-class media operator and I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished,” said Kim Guthrie, President Cox Media Group. “Together, we have built CMG into one of the most respected media groups in the industry.”
