Inspections continue after fiery I-44 crash

TULSA — All lane of I-44 were opened by 11:30 Friday morning after a semi burst into flames Thursday near Highway 169.

“We are still developing some repair plans, not just for the bridge where it was hit by the oversized load, but also the pavement area where the semi was on fire,” said ODOT Spokesperson Kenna Mitchell.

Everyone was able to walk away from the crash without any major injuries.

Mitchell says the damage would have been a lot worse if the semi caught fire under the bridge.

Traffic is now flowing again in the area, but drivers need to be cautious for inspectors under the bridge.

“There’s going to be a lot of different parts that need to be addressed in the next coming weeks,” said Mitchell. “We’ll have to do an emergency contract for that and we’ll get some more information once that contract and the plans are final.”

ODOT says there is no significant immediate damage.
