On July 14, 2021, 18-year-old Kourtland McFrazier was walking with his friends at the Savannah Landing apartments near 61st and Peoria when he was shot in the head. McFrazier died from his injuries.

The shooting was recorded on video surveillance but did not show the shooter. Police say the shot came from a park nearby.

22-year-old Jalen Mack admitted to being in the park, sitting in his truck smoking marijuana. According to the affidavit, Mack did admit to shooting a gun in the direction of the apartment complex, but did not shoot McFrazier.

Mack’s trial was last week. On Monday, a jury found Mack not guilty of the murder. Mack did plead guilty to the possession of a firearm. He will be sentenced for that charge on April 20, 2023.
